Reduce Fine Lines & Wrinkles
When patients come in wanting to look younger and reduce the appearance of fine lines and aging, many will start with a Botox treatment. Botox has been around for many years and has been used for a myriad of different ailments, including migraine headaches and excessive sweating.
Patients who are hesitant to try Botox will be happy to learn that it is a very well-studied medication with relatively few side effects.
However, the most popular use is to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. Botox works by relaxing different sets of muscles around the face to help make patients look years younger. This 15 minute treatment generally takes effect within 24 to 48 hours and can last up to 4 months.
Dr. Harris has been using Botox in her practice for 4 years and uses a minimalist approach so that patients can achieve a more youthful look without looking frozen or overdone.
This area requires 3 to 4 injections in the muscles that cause the crow’s feet lines, and by temporarily relaxing those muscles, patients will see a reduction in the appearance of those fine lines.
BETWEEN THE EYEBROWS (the 11s)
Patients will have between 3 to 5 injections in this area to relax the muscles that cause the 11 lines. When patients have deeper lines between the eyebrows, more than one treatment will likely be necessary to reduce those lines. If the lines are very deep, a dermal filler like Juvederm can be used to smooth it out even further.
Depending on the size of the forehead, 4 to 12 injections may be needed for this area and mostly should be done along with the 11s.
For patients looking for a little more volume or to help with the very fine lines around the mouth, 2-4 injections can help subtly volumize the lips.
1 to 2 injections per side can help with a slight brow lift and give a bit more arch to the eyebrow.
A Typical Appointment
A typical botox appointment is normally 30 minutes or less depending on the areas of treatment. A series of injections will be performed with a small amount of Botox injected into each site. The number of units and injections is customized to each patient, and pain is normally minimal. Patients should expect to have some bruising and bleeding afterwards, this is a normal effect of injecting under the skin.
The Botox will start to take effect starting about 48 hours after the first treatment but will not take full effect until approximately 7 days. Dr. Harris can help give you a younger, more relaxed look in a natural way without looking overdone or too frozen. Treatments last 3-4 months on average.
